Hospitality and nightlife have been two of the sectors hardest hit in the last year and a half by the pandemic. Restaurants, discos and nightclubs not only had to stop their activities from one day to the next due to the Coronavirus crisis, but they have also been the last businesses to be able to open normally. Many did not recover and had to close permanently. That's why, when in the spring of 2020 Pello Campo decided to set up

an original and local transgressor, in the style of New York clubs

, many thought he was crazy.

Before all prognoses, the risky bet of this businessman dedicated all his life to the hospitality and nightlife businesses went well. After almost a year of projects, search for financing and headaches, on February 4, 2021

Aurora Madrid

opened its doors

in Alberto Alcocer Street. Despite the hard start due to the strong capacity and schedule restrictions, in just nine months it has become

one of the most fashionable places in the capital

. Its concept of restaurant-club, with a cocktail bar, live music and dance floor, in addition to its groundbreaking and attractive interior design, has received a great response from the public it is aimed at (40 years and older), who he wants to eat well and have a better time.

The waiting list for dinner from Thursday to Saturday is

already over a month and many people decide to go from 11:30 p.m. just to enjoy live music or DJ sessions that last until 6 a.m. .

Iker Casillas

, Bertín Osborne and their daughter Eugenia are some of the well-known clients who have already passed through Aurora, according to the owner.

the beginning

"When we were confined in March 2020, I had to close Koh Tao, the nightclub I had at the time and which was working well. I decided to go around the business and change the concept. I took down the place and renovated it entirely," says Pello.

"It was very risky, because the brands did not want to enter because of the situation, we did not know when they were going to let us open, the more than 1,000 square meters of premises need a lot of staff and maintenance, the investment was huge and the rent is very high .. .but I kept going. "

The businessman had a very clear idea: to make a restaurant that was like a club, in the New York style, with two priorities,

that it ate well and that it was a fun place without posturing

. The former has been achieved thanks to the proposals of chef Javier Menéndez (El Mentidero de la Villa or El Pimiento Verde), who is now in charge of Aurora's gastronomic offer. With a menu inspired by international cuisine, in which the quality and proximity raw material is the main protagonist, among the wide variety of dishes you can find from a hamburger to a steak, oysters and scallops, ceviches or sea bass tacos and oxtail (average price: 45 euros per person). In the cellar they have 120 wine references. The second, fun, they achieve by putting everyone to dance after dinner with the live animation of their three resident bands (Picocos, Le Petite Fucking Band and Banda), who perform national and international pop rock hits from the 80 and 90.

"We want a site that is fun, aimed at a profile of a public of medium-high purchasing power of 40 years or more, that when they go out to dinner and want to keep going, do it here. There are few places they can go for it; discos are for a different, younger audience. Fortunately, word of mouth, without advertising or public relations, has made Aurora what it is today: a fun place, where you eat well and where people return ", according to Pello.

The two-story place has four spaces: the large terrace at street level and Little Aurora, where you can enjoy a non-stop snack, at the top; and the Restaurant & Club, on the lower floor, with different types of tables, sofas, a stage that hosts live performances, with its dance floor, and the bar area. "When we opened in February we started having meals and

shows

after eating;

then, as restrictions and capacity changed, we expanded hours, "says Pello. Today they open from Tuesday to Saturday from 1:00 p.m. and, from Wednesday to Saturday, after dinner, they have live pop concerts. rock of the 80s and 90s of its three resident bands that are in charge of the entertainment from 11:30 pm to 2:00 am The entrance to see the concerts if you do not have a reservation for dinner is 20 euros (including a drink). h., and until 6 in the morning, a DJ finishes animating the night (free admission).

Restaurant area on the ground floor.

Interior design

One of the hallmarks of Aurora is its interior design project, created and designed in an integral way by the

Aurora Gámez studio

, with a transgressive, colorful and luxurious aesthetic that evokes the interiors of the clandestine clubs of New York, but is presented on the outside like a big Broadway premiere.

"It was a crush. I didn't know anything about his studio and, as he passed projects on to me, I fell more in love. At first I thought about making a club like the clandestine ones in New York, but after seeing the design that Aurora proposed, I preferred to do it as a kind of Broadway theater, the lighting and the facade is very of that style, "says Pello.

He liked it so much that he named the place after his decorator.
