In 2019, China was one of the first countries to officially launch 5G.

Thanks to this advance, the country announces that it has been able to democratize technology among a large number of its citizens and unveils its plans for the years to come.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) says nearly 450 million of its citizens have used 5G at least once since its launch.

By comparison, the European Union has only 447 million inhabitants.

According to MIIT, these 450 million Chinese represent about 80% of 5G network users worldwide.

According to estimates by the State Council, the number of 5G users in China is expected to reach 560 million by 2023.

Three million antennas by 2025

Currently, more than a million 5G relay antennas are already installed. By 2025, the Chinese government wants to set up 3.64 million antennas. Thanks to these antennas, the government plans to connect all major Chinese metropolises and medium-sized cities to 5G. The plan estimates that there will be an average of 26 5G stations per 10,000 residents. In 2020, they were only 5 per 10,000 inhabitants.

"The new 5G network is already used in 22 industrial sectors considered strategic by Beijing, especially in manufacturing, mining, logistics and port sectors, but soon 15 more will be added," Xie Cun, director of MIIT, told the newspaper.

China Daily.

“In the next step, we will work with other entities to focus on promoting 5G applications in information consumption, the real economy and people's livelihood services.

"

Chinese companies are expected to invest a total of more than 2,000 billion yuan, or just over 276 billion euros, in 5G infrastructure in the coming years.
