A new species of mushroom that has not yet been reported to academia has been discovered in an oreum in Jeju Island.
The Jeju Technopark (JTP) Biodiversity Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Research Institute) announced today (26th) that it had recently discovered a new mushroom by conducting a joint academic research in Lee Seung-ak, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, with the 'Jeju Mushroom Mini Research Group'.
The research institute reported this new mushroom to the international scientific journal 'Phytotaxa' and said that related contents will be published.
The institute explained that the newly discovered mushroom belongs to the genus Trichoglossum and has a unique shape like a black spoon.
The research institute added that the mushroom found this time is similar to the genus of black devil mushroom reported in Korea, but it was confirmed as a new species as a result of microstructure observation and genetic analysis.
The research institute said that this new mushroom has thicker ascots than other species, and contains 8 spores with 15 to 16 septa, which distinguish it from other species.
As a result of analyzing the genes of the new mushroom, there is a similarity of 89% with the black devil's mushroom, which is the standard of the genus, but there is a genetic difference in the rest.
The research institute tentatively named this new mushroom 'Trichoglossum jejuense' using the Latin word 'jejuense' for Jeju.
