[Summary]

- Coaches, habitual assault on swimmers with severe disabilities in their 10s and 20s

- Victims "drank water under pressure while submersed"

- Court issues arrest warrant for "fear of destroying evidence"

Two former coaches of the Incheon City Paralympic Swimming Federation were arrested on charges of habitually assaulting 12 severely disabled swimmers.

Jang Ki-seok, the chief judge in charge of warrants of the Incheon District Court, issued an arrest warrant for them, saying, "There is a risk of destroying evidence."

Coaches A and B are accused of assaulting 12 disabled swimmers several times in the pool storage area from 2019 to July last year.

The age range of the assaulted players was between 10 and 20, and they were identified as severely disabled, including intellectual and autistic disorders.

In March, Mr. A and Mr. B both resigned, but when the players realized that they did not need to see the coaches anymore, their harsh behavior became known to the world.

The victim's mother said, "(The assault coach) said that he had quit and that a new teacher would come, so the children burst out saying, 'I was right,' and it was revealed."

Victims said they were assaulted because they couldn't move properly or were slow, or because they lost a one-on-one match.

He also confessed that he had to drink the pool water because his body was pressed down while diving, and that he had to urinate on the spot because he was tied up and unable to move.

Previously, the parents of the injured players filed a complaint with the Sports Association for the Disabled in March and June, and after the Incheon Advocacy Agency for the Disabled found the facts, they requested the police to investigate.

On the other hand, it has been found that A and B have already been subjected to internal disciplinary action for taking unfair profits of 450,000 won per month from classes that have already been banned from 2018 to 2020.

One of them was given a reduction in salary and suspension of registration as a leader in the Incheon area, and the other received a three-year suspension of qualification as a leader.

This is a 'news pick'.
