Last weekend, the number of new corona cases recorded 2,000, and the spread continued after a gradual recovery of daily life. Even today (8th), it is expected that the number of tests will be around 1,900 despite the decrease in the number of tests over the weekend. The government is pulling the schedule for booster doses to catch the spread. Janssen vaccinations will start today, and nursing hospital residents will start receiving additional vaccinations the day after tomorrow.

Reporter Kim Deok-hyun reports.

Over the past three months since August, there have been 160 cases of collective infection in nursing homes and facilities, with 2,424 confirmed cases alone.

Most of the residents here, in their 60s and 70s, have already exceeded 90% of the completion rate of vaccination, but after a certain period of time has passed, they have become more vulnerable to infection.

The number of confirmed cases among the elderly in their 60s and older is also steadily increasing.

This is why the government has advanced the booster vaccination schedule for nursing hospitals and facilities by one month.

[Son Young-rae/Chief of Social Strategy Team, Central Accident Resolving Headquarters (last 3 days): These are vulnerable facilities that have been vaccinated first since the end of February this year, and the period of weakening immunity is coming. (Booster vaccination) to be carried out earlier within 4 weeks… .]

Additional vaccinations for 500,000 people, including those in nursing homes and facilities, will start the day after the next day.

In addition, Janssen vaccinated persons, who have a much higher breakthrough infection rate than those vaccinated with other vaccines, can also receive additional vaccinations starting today.

Following 11 confirmed cases at a high school in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the number of teenage infections is also increasing, with confirmed cases appearing at another high school nearby.

The government is in the position of recommending vaccination for teenagers as they are often exposed to risks due to group living, etc.
