A new phone financial fraud (voice phishing) occurred taking advantage of the shortage of urea, and the police launched an investigation.

According to the Jeonbuk National Police Agency on the 4th, a phone call impersonating a KT employee was received from the representative number of a urea water manufacturer in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, around 1:30 pm the day before (3rd).

It is known that the man who made the call demanded, "There is a problem with the current line and we have to do construction work, so please forward the office phone to another number."

As a result, when the company transferred the phone number, it was found that the man intercepted the call to the company and told the urea water purchase inquiries, "I will sell the urea water in large quantities, so please deposit it first."

At around 7 pm, the company received a call from the CEO's cell phone asking, "Is it true that you can purchase 3,600 urea numbers?"

It was found that 5 to 6 buyers who were deceived by voice phishing pre-deposited the purchase price of 80 million won.

An official from the company said, "The voice phishing organization took the logo from our company website and even made a fake business card and showed it to the victims."

He continued, "There is no place to purchase urea in bulk recently, but there was an article on a used trading site saying that 50 urea numbers made by our company were sold." BoA is also suspected of being false."

The police are checking the damage situation based on the report.

Urea water is an aqueous solution that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx), a carcinogen generated by diesel vehicles, into water and nitrogen, and must be added to the exhaust gas reduction system (SCR), which is mandatory for diesel vehicles.

As for urea, a raw material for urea water, China accounts for about two-thirds of domestic imports.
