A driver in his 60s who hit and injured an elementary school student while driving a car in a child protection zone (school zone) has been sentenced to a fine.

The 13th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Ho Seong-ho) announced today (2nd) that it had sentenced a 62-year-old woman, who was charged with injuring a child protection area under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, to a fine of 10 million won.

Person A was charged with hitting and injuring group B (12), who was crossing the road on a bicycle while driving in the school zone in front of an elementary school in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon at around 5 pm on May 13 this year.

Group B fell and broke an arm bone and was diagnosed with a battery for 8 weeks.

The court emphasized that the driver had to be careful in the school zone, while acknowledging that Mr. A's vision was limited just before the accident and that it was difficult to predict the accident because Group B drove a bicycle and came out to the back road at a rather high speed.

"At the time, the van parked on the right obstructed the defendant's view," the court said.

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "In the school zone, you must drive with extreme caution."
