Prosecutors have handed over to trial, under arrest, on charges of taking bribes from lawmaker Jeong Chan-min.

Suwon District Prosecutor's Office's Criminal Division 6 judged that Jeong received 462 million won in bribes from a third party while serving as the mayor of Yongin between 2016 and 2017 and prosecuted them.

Prosecutors believe that Rep. Jung received a bribe from real estate developer A in exchange for providing the convenience of permitting land in Bora-dong, Yongin.

Mr. A is accused of having a third party, including Rep. Jung's older brother, acquire the land in the development site at 406 million won, which is cheaper than the market price.

Person A is also charged with paying 56 million won in land acquisition and registration tax.

The prosecution also handed over Mr. A and Mr. B, who was a junior in the hometown of Rep. Jeong and abetted the crime, to trial without detention.

The investigation into Rep. Chung began after the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency obtained intelligence last year.

A preliminary arrest warrant for Rep. Jung was issued by the Suwon District Court at the beginning of last month.
