Independent lawmaker Kwak Sang-do (62) appealed against the 5 billion won that his son Kwak Mo (31) received from Hwacheon Daeyu in the name of severance pay and consolation money.

According to the legal community, on the 29th of last month, Rep. Kwak's side filed an appeal against the court's decision citing the claim for compensation.

Collection preservation is a procedure that freezes the proceeds suspected of having been obtained through a crime until the defendants are convicted.

Earlier, the court said last month, "Rep. Kwak obtained illegal property through bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes in contravention of the Political Funds Act and conspiracy with his son, and there is good reason to consider that it is a case that should be collected." The prosecution's request for compensation was accepted.
