T-Mobile is also removing smartphones from its stores as a result of a series of robberies in the Amsterdam region, a spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl on Thursday.

The provider says it will remove phones from stores in "risk areas".

The spokesperson does not want to say exactly which areas those are in order "not to make it too easy for robbers".

The shops will remain open.

T-Mobile says it made the decision for the safety of employees and customers.

"We choose to remove stock from our stores and have in-store customer orders delivered to their homes the next day," the provider wrote in a statement.

VodafoneZiggo and KPN also announced on Wednesday that they would remove smartphones from their stores in the Amsterdam region.

In addition, KPN is closing its branch on Bijlmerplein, which has been the target of robberies several times in recent times.
