Virtual reality is invited in the operating theaters of the Center hospitalier de l'Agglomération montargoise (Cham), in Loiret.

The health facility has tested the use of 3D helmets during operations, reports

La République du Center

.

The experiment being conclusive, the hospital should invest in two virtual reality headsets.

This tool would reduce the stress of a patient during an operation with local anesthesia.

“With the helmet in front of his eyes, the patient is immersed in different settings: a forest, a beach, underwater or even a Japanese garden”, explains the coordinator of the operating theaters of the hospital center to our colleagues.

Reduce stress and pain

The virtual environment created by the headset thus makes it possible to reduce the pain felt by the patient, by diverting his attention.

For three weeks, ten people were able to try the system, and the feedback is positive.

During the operation, caregivers can still communicate with the patient.

It is possible to stop the immersion at any time.

The use of virtual reality headsets as part of a treatment protocol is developing rapidly.

In Cham, the experiment was conclusive in the operating theater, but the use of helmets could be extended.

In the pediatric department, for children for example.
