A man who visited his ex-girlfriend's house and repeatedly rang the doorbell was subject to the new Stalking Punishment Act.

Jeonju Deokjin Police Station in Jeonbuk Province announced today (22nd) that they are investigating a 25-year-old man without detention on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act.

Mr. A is suspected of ringing the doorbell of his ex-girlfriend's house in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, around 1:30 am yesterday.

The police, who arrived after receiving the woman's first report, informed Mr. A, "If you keep coming or ring the bell even though the other party refuses, you can be punished."

The police, who arrived after receiving the second report, arrested Mr. A as a current criminal.

A police official said, "The police officer who was dispatched stopped and warned Mr. A, but he did not stop and arrested him."

After completing the initial investigation, the police plan to call Mr. A again to investigate.

The Stalking Punishment Act that went into effect yesterday stipulates that a stalker can be sentenced to up to three years in prison.

By applying the Misdemeanor Punishment Act, the level of punishment, which was mostly imposed only on fines, was further raised.

Stalking is an act of ▲ approaching or blocking the path of a partner or his/her family member or cohabiting person without justifiable reason against the other party’s will, ▲ waiting or watching in or near the residence.
