The quarantine authorities are reviewing the formation of a safety committee to expand the scope of recognition of causality related to adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.

In response to a question about the need to broaden the scope of causality and vaccination against COVID-19 vaccine, during a state audit held by the Health and Welfare Committee held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 20th, Jung Eun-kyung, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said, "It is possible to review the causality of a new adverse reaction of a new vaccine. "We are reviewing the safety committee," he said.

Regarding the safety committee, Commissioner Jeong explained, "We will review measures to newly analyze the reported data independently and objectively with professional societies such as the Academy of Medicine and expand the standards."

Currently, the damage compensation committee is judging based on known adverse reactions worldwide, including the US and Europe, which is interpreted to mean expanding the scope of medical standards so that new reports of adverse reactions can be independently judged in the future.

In the case of known adverse events, such as anaphylaxis, causality is immediately recognized if the diagnosis is clear, but the safety committee will review whether or not to recognize causality in myocardial infarction, pneumonia, and sepsis as the causal relationship has not been confirmed at present.

Commissioner Chung also added, "We are preparing to apply retrospectively to the extent to which (newly) causality is applied."
