While the number of so-called 'breakthrough infection' cases, which are confirmed even after completing all vaccinations against COVID-19, is increasing in Korea, it was found that the infection rate of Janssen vaccine vaccinated mainly among young people was particularly high.

An official from the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team said at a regular briefing today (23rd) that the risk of breakthrough infection increases due to the high exposure to the Corona 19 virus as the subjects to receive the Janssen vaccine are active in their 30s and 40s.

Regarding the possibility that the Janssen vaccine, which ends with a single dose, is less effective than a vaccine that requires two doses, the official said, “The limitation of a single dose requires more research and observation. We will review it together,” he said.

As of the 12th, 5,880 of those who completed vaccination in Korea were confirmed, counting the number of cases of breakthrough infection.

By vaccine type, the breakthrough infection rate among those vaccinated with Janssen was the highest at 161.2 per 100,000, followed by Pfizer with 33.5, AstraZeneca with 27.6, and Moderna with 24.2.

However, the breakthrough infection rate is about 40 per 100,000 people who have completed vaccination, maintaining a level of 0.04%.
