The police arrested two sellers of EncroChat phones on Tuesday, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported Friday.

The suspects are believed to have sold hundreds of phones and subscriptions to criminals during the time EncroChat was active.

It concerns a 44-year-old man from Kaatsheuvel and a 24-year-old woman from Rosmalen.

They were arrested on suspicion of participating in a criminal organization and laundering criminal money.

The two individuals are also suspected of complicity in the crimes committed by their clients.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, they have deliberately chosen to play a role as criminal service provider.

The suspects will remain in custody for at least the next two weeks while the investigation continues.

The Public Prosecution Service reports that several suspects and witnesses will be heard in the near future.

Last year, the police managed to crack the encrypted communication service EncroChat.

That program was often used by criminals to exchange messages.
