An elderly man in his 80s living alone who collapsed from a cerebral infarction made two rescue requests to 119, but it was revealed that the firefighters did not properly file a report and were left unattended for over 7 hours.

According to the Chungbuk Fire Department on the 15th, Mr. A in his 80s collapsed at his home in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province around 10 pm on the 6th and called 911 twice on his cell phone.

However, for some reason, the rescue team did not arrive, and he was left alone for over 7 hours until the morning of the next day, and was found by his family and was rushed to the hospital.

The golden hour for treatment had already passed.

(※ For cerebral infarction, the golden time for treatment is 3 hours immediately after the onset) The

firefighter who received the report at the time said, "The first report was cut off as soon as it was received and was treated as 'non-response', and the second report, which lasted for 30 seconds, had inaccurate pronunciation and communication was difficult." clarified.

One of the typical symptoms of cerebral infarction that Mr. A suffers from is 'slurred pronunciation'.

According to the 119 Situation Room Manual, the elderly should be more careful when reporting, but they simply ignored the emergency report on the grounds that 'communication is difficult due to poor pronunciation'.

This fact became known on the 15th when the child of Mr. A posted on the bulletin board of the Blue House public petition, 'Chungcheongbuk-do Fire Headquarters 119 General Situation Room neglect of duty'.

In this article, Mr. A's child said, "The failure to comply with the 119 report reception manual is a serious matter and neglect of duty. I can't believe the saying that there is no internal investigation," he appealed for injustice.

“Although my father is 82 years old, he does public work and is healthier than me. Even if we were dispatched that day, I don’t think it would be the same as it is now.”

Meanwhile, the Chungbuk Fire Department requested an audit of the firefighters in order to determine the exact circumstances.

An official from the Chungbuk Fire Department said, "In principle, according to the 119 report reception manual, when an elderly person makes a report, they pay attention and respond to the report. will be decided,” he said.

This is a 'news pick'.
