The month of September has been, for years, the month in which Apple launches the new models of its flagship product: the iPhone.

The appointment is different each year, but it is considered the most important for the company, along with WWDC, due to the relevance of the telephone.

This 2021 Apple will once again bet on a 100% virtual event that can be seen from any web browser or AppleTV, both on YouTube and on Apple's page.

The appointment is this next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., European Central Time.

IPHONE 13

The protagonist of the event will be what is possibly known as iPhone 13. The phone will be very similar in external appearance to the current models, but with a "notch" or "eyebrow" at the top of the screen somewhat more compact.

Inside there will be several changes.

These are expected to be the first iPhones, at least on the Pro models, with 120Hz refresh displays.

This feature, which allows smoother transitions and animations to be displayed, is common on many high-end and mid-range Android phones, but has yet to be received by the iPhone (some iPad models do).

Part of the screen could also be always on, showing the time and some notifications.

Screens with higher refresh rates consume more battery, so Apple will probably add a higher capacity one as well.

The phones, in consequence, could be a little thicker and heavier but they will also have 10% more autonomy, approximately, according to the rumors that have been circulating for weeks on the network.

The new A15 Bionic processor will also contribute to the greater autonomy, which will be the first manufactured with the 5nm + process of the TSMC company.

Using a smaller manufacturing process will allow the phone to have more power with less consumption on a chip the same size as the current A13 Bionic in the iPhone 12.

If the rumors are correct, there will be several trailers on camera as well.

The configurations will be very similar to those of the current iPhone 12, but the sensors will be brighter, allowing better results.

photos in low light conditions.

The night mode will improve significantly and the ultra-wide-angle camera, which is now the worst in terms of quality and brightness, will have significant improvements, including an autofocus system.

Apple could also launch a feature to record video with "portrait effect", in which the background of scenes is blurred to mimic the image that would be obtained with a camera and larger lenses.

This improvement would also be accompanied by improvements in the video compression algorithms, including new formats aimed at professionals.

Apple will also include a new iPhone model with 1 TB of storage.

Finally, one of the rumors that have surprised the most (and which, of course, is not confirmed) is that the iPhone could integrate a satellite communication function.

It would be initially limited to emergency cases but it will allow users to make an emergency call or send a message in areas where there is no mobile coverage, connecting with constellations of satellites in low orbit.

The pandemic is complicating the logistics of all kinds of products and the iPhone is no exception.

This means that there may be delays or very limited availability at first, although the phones are expected to go on sale this September.

APPLE WATCH 7

Along with the iPhone, the other product that seems safe is the new version of the Apple Watch, which will come with a new, more boxy-looking design.

It will have two new case sizes, 41mm and 45mm and that also means that the straps on the old iPhones, which have worked in the previous seven generations, may not be compatible with this model or require an adapter.

The new watches could also come with new sensors, although little has leaked from the production chain.

According to several analysts, Apple has been working for years on a sensor capable of measuring blood sugar, although it may not be ready for this model.

It has also been rumored that Apple could include new smart straps with add-on sensors that would allow accurate blood pressure measurements.

The new watch will have a larger battery and a 30% more powerful processor.

Like the iPhone, logistics problems caused by the pandemic are likely to delay the launch of the first units or limit availability.

AIRPODS and IPADS

Although the iPhone and Apple Watch are taken for granted, the third announcement of the day could be a new version of the AirPods, the company's wireless headphones.

The new AirPods would copy the design language of the AirPods Pro, with a larger charging case and a design with a shorter pole but a somewhat larger body.

Thanks to this change in design, the AirPods will have greater autonomy and better acoustic insulation, although it is not clear if they will include, like the Pro, active cancellation of ambient noise.

Apple could also take advantage of the event to present new iPad and iPad mini models with the same visual language as the current iPad Pro and iPad Air, without the home button and with the fingerprint reader on the power button. The Ipad Mini would have the same A15 processor as the iPhone 13 and the new entry iPad, larger but with a lower price and power, would stay with the A13, the processor used by the iPhone 11.

Apple could save the iPad announcement, however, for a later event in the fall where it is expected to also introduce new Macs equipped with the second generation of its Mx processors.

The company has already updated the Macbbok Air, the iMac, the Mac Mini and a Macbook Pro model, but it still needs to show what its strategy will be in the equipment destined for the professional market, which still depends on Intel processors.
