Finally a real sports car with edges and character: In front of us is the GR Supra from Toyota with a long bonnet and a distinctive spoiler.

Anyone who takes a seat in the cabin for two people is inevitably reminded of the BMW Z4.

Because through a cooperation between Toyota and BMW, the Z4 was created as an open sports car and the new GR Supra as a closed sports coupé.

The 3-liter six-cylinder and the infotainment that we have tested come from BMW. Buttons, controls, on-board monitor, controller: all this comes from Bavaria, has been slightly modified for Toyota and is solid technology with some Gran Turismo allusions. Looking through the steering wheel, you can see the digital cockpit with fine drawings, a 3D tachometer and gearshift indicator, as well as a digital speedometer.

The flat on-board monitor with a diagonal of 8.8 inches sits on the center console. It is touch-sensitive, but almost all functions can be controlled with the controller next to the gearshift lever of the automatic transmission. There are physical buttons on the top and bottom that offer quick access to individual functional areas. The air conditioning is also controlled with physical buttons, and eight favorite buttons in the center console allow you to save your own navigation targets or radio stations and call them up at the touch of a button.

The content in the main display is arranged on tiles, which makes orientation easy. Radio and media, communication, navigation, online services and the vehicle settings as well as an extensive help menu are quickly accessible. The most sensible detail is the real-time traffic information, which is called here as with BMW Real Time Trafic Information. Like the competition, information on the flow of traffic can be displayed in traffic light colors over the road network. The quality of the data was more satisfactory than good during our journeys. For example, it was not until 20 minutes before the approach to the Salzbachtalbrücke of the A 66 near Wiesbaden that the autobahn was noticed and a detour was recommended.

The online connection is rather economical compared to the BMW Z4. Much is missing, the basic offer is limited to apps for the weather report, for reading out agency news, an online search and Wiki Local. Otherwise, the following applies: The functionality of the infotainment grows with the selected model variant. In the cheapest GR Supra Pure you get a Bluetooth hands-free speaker and a small audio system with four speakers. From the GR Supra Dynamic onwards, navigation, Apple Carplay, online services and a traffic sign assistant are also included. The GR Supra Legend even has ten speakers for music playback. A head-up display is only available as part of a premium package at prices between 2000 and 3000 euros.
