<Anchor> As

vaccinations for those under 40 have started recently, the number of vaccines left in medical institutions is increasing.

Since there are so many subjects to be vaccinated, more residual vaccines are coming out.

Correspondent Kim Deok-hyeon reported.

15 million people between the ages of 18 and 49 were vaccinated on the 26th.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are used for vaccination, and more than 60,000 doses of residual vaccine are being administered on weekdays.

As the volume of inoculation increased, the amount of residual vaccine also increased.

However, when the primary vaccination rate exceeds 90% for those in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, the earlier the vaccinations between the ages of 18 and 49, the fewer the remaining vaccine recipients.

Most of the residual vaccine is used for the first vaccination.

It is possible to receive the second dose early only at the hospital where it is scheduled, but whether or not it is allowed varies by hospital.

The government has set a target for the primary vaccination rate at 70% of the population before Chuseok, and plans to reach a maximum of 1 million people a day.

However, the problem is that as the number of daily inoculations increases, residual vaccines may accumulate and the amount of waste may increase.

[Jeong Eun-kyung/Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: We will cooperate with the medical community as much as possible so that residual vaccines are not discarded and used for inoculation.]

This is the reason why the opinion that residual vaccines should

be used for the

second inoculation is persuasive.

[Choi Jae-wook/Professor of Preventive Medicine, Korea University College of Medicine: If you need it, come sooner and fit those who can fit 6 weeks into 4 weeks. Whether it is the 1st or 2nd dose, we need to release all (reservation restrictions) so that we can quickly get the residual vaccine.]

Use the residual vaccine for additional vaccinations for the elderly over 60 who have not yet been vaccinated, or those who have been vaccinated for more than 6 months. There is also an opinion to minimize the amount of waste.
