Would you be ready to go to Mars?

Nasa on Friday launched the recruitment of the team that will participate in the fall of 2022 in the “Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog” mission, reports

Le Figaro

.

This is a series of three life simulations on the surface of the planet Mars.

Each will last one year and will take place at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Texas, United States, the US agency said in a statement.

The objective of these missions is to "help researchers to develop methods and technologies making it possible to prevent and solve problems likely to arise during future space flights to the Moon or Mars", explained NASA.

Specialists are indeed aware that the nature of space exploration missions has evolved, as have the challenges and difficulties encountered by future astronauts.

Mars is calling!

📲 Applications are open to participate in a rare and unique opportunity: the first one-year analog mission in a habitat to simulate life on a distant world, beginning Fall 2022.

Applications accepted until September 17

“Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog” will provide information on how “highly motivated individuals” respond physically and psychologically to the stresses of long-term simulation on the ground.

The four crew members selected for each of the three operations will live and work in a module of just over 150 m² called Mars Dune Alpha.

They will have to perform false spacewalks, communicate with the outside, use real and virtual instruments and conduct science experiments.

Participants will also be confronted with technical failures, shortages of necessary resources or even communications cuts.

Applications for these “unique and rewarding adventures” will be accepted until September 17, 2021.

Only U.S. citizens or residents between the ages of 30 and 55, non-smokers and in good health are eligible.

A perfect command of English and a Masters in computer science, mathematics, engineering, biology or physics are also required.

The diploma must be accompanied by at least two years of scientific professional experience or 1,000 hours of airplane piloting.
