A 23-year-old man died in central Perpignan overnight from Sunday to Monday and three other people were injured.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this is a settling of scores between rival gangs around drug trafficking. 

A 23-year-old man died in the night from Sunday to Monday, shot during a shooting against a background of drug trafficking, in the center of Perpignan, said a police source.

At around 3 a.m., a group of several people was the target of gunfire from a car that fled, Place Joseph Cassanyes, the same source said.

A settling of scores between rival gangs

Four people were injured, including a 23-year-old man, who died of his injuries in hospital.

He was known to the police for drug trafficking.

Another man was seriously injured.

The market which is held daily on this square has been canceled, according to the town hall of Perpignan.

The Perpignan judicial police were seized of the investigation and cordoned off the area.

According to a source close to the investigation, this is a settling of scores between rival gangs, who are fighting over drug trafficking points in this city of 120,000 inhabitants.
