Yesterday, the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 was 1,492.

Although the number decreased by more than 200 from the day before, it has recorded more than 1,000 people for the 34th day since the 7th of last month.

It is also the highest number for Sunday patients, which is announced on Monday morning.

By region, 881 people in the metropolitan area including 414 in Seoul accounted for 60%, and the proportion in non-metropolitan areas, including 121 in Busan, also reached 40%.

The proportion of patients in non-metropolitan areas has been maintained at around 40% for the past week, showing that the spread of the fourth epidemic continues across the country.

The current phase 4 in the metropolitan area and phase 3 in the non-metropolitan area have been extended for two more weeks until the 22nd, but in Busan, where the number of patients has surged, step 4 will be applied from tomorrow.

The government said that the goal is to create a clear decrease in the number of patients in the metropolitan area and to stop the spread in non-metropolitan areas.

Yesterday, as more than 27,000 people received additional vaccinations, the cumulative number of first-time vaccine recipients approached 21 million, accounting for 40.8% of the population.

The number of people who have been vaccinated is 7.7 million, which is 15% of the population.

In the midst of this, the government is scheduled to announce the details of the introduction of the vaccine and vaccination plan this afternoon.
