Despite the shortage of chips and microprocessors, Sony has just passed the milestone of 10 million PS5s sold, according to the VGChartz site, which analyzes daily sales figures in all areas of the globe.

A major milestone for the manufacturer, which has managed to do much better than on the previous generation of consoles since it would have managed to cross this level in the space of 35 weeks, against 39 for the PS4.

Sony is also doing much better than its competitor, Microsoft, which would have sold only 5.93 million Xbox Series X and S. The poor performance of the American giant is explained for the moment by a lack of exclusives at launch. and lower demand in Europe and Asia for the console.

Two opposing strategies

The two rivals have adopted very different strategies.

Microsoft relies mainly on its Gamepass, its subscription gaming service, which is very generous in terms of content, to attract its customers.

Sony, on the other hand, is betting on big exclusives available only for sale.

While the figures are very encouraging, sales of next-gen consoles should remain constrained for a few more months.

Analysts do not expect the production capacities of the two giants to increase before 2022 or even 2023 at the earliest.
