On August 2, 1916, the foundation of the Moscow Automobile Society plant took place in Russia. This date is considered to be the birthday of the company, which would later become known as AMO ZIL. During its heyday, the plant produced about 200 thousand cars a year and was one of the largest production associations in the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the USSR, the production activity of the enterprise was significantly reduced. By the 2010s, most of the production capacity was destroyed. In 2014, the city authorities announced the liquidation of AMO ZIL.
