Since 2018, Amazon has been providing its delivery people with a system that electronically unlocks the doors of the halls of several "thousand buildings" in the United States, according to information from the American agency Associated Press (AP) relayed by BFMTV.

This service, called "Key for Business", was developed to guarantee the delivery of parcels on time.

An agreement with the owners

In the United States, more and more managers would put this system in place.

However, they must first obtain the agreement of the unions or the owners.

Tenants do not have to give their opinion and are not even warned.

To promote its service, Amazon reportedly offered $ 100 gift cards to some managers.

They would also have "concluded agreements with local locksmiths, so that they praise its service during their interventions", according to AP.

A security risk?

If "Key for Business" seems to appear as a practical service for delivery people, some experts in technology wonder about possible security problems that it could generate.

“Any device connected to the Internet can be hacked, and that includes Amazon's.

Ill-intentioned people could try to open these doors, ”explained Ashkan Soltani, former digital adviser to Barack Obama.

Conversely, Amazon claimed that its system offers more security against theft of packages.

For now, “Key for Business” is only available in the United States.

No arrival in France is planned.
