▲ HDC Hyundai Industrial Development site manager and safety manager accused of negligent manslaughter

The site director of HDC Hyundai Industrial Development, the construction company of Hakdong 4 district in Gwangju, where the collapse occurred, was arrested.

Judge Park Min-woo of the Gwangju District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Seo, the on-site director of the HDC, who was charged with negligence and death on the job today (22nd).

Judge Park explained the reason for issuing the warrant because there is a risk of destroying evidence.

The warrant for Mr. Kim, the head of the safety department, was dismissed on the grounds that the residence was constant, there was no fear of running away, and the prosecution lacked an explanation for the fear of evidence destruction.

They are accused of negligence in the management and supervision of the demolition site as the construction company's site and safety management officers and causing a collapse accident that resulted in 17 casualties (such as occupational negligence).

The police determined that they were responsible for the disaster by acquiescing or aiding in the situation even though they had to witness the illegal demolition from time to time at the site.

Seo was additionally charged with the Occupational Safety and Health Act by reflecting the results of the investigation by the Special Judicial Police Officer of the Labor Administration.

Seo entered the courtroom after appearing at the interrogation of the suspect on the same day and saying, "I'm sorry to the people, victims, and their families."

Regarding whether he was instructed to continuously spray water during demolition, the demolition construction method, or whether he was aware of illegal subcontracting, he said, "I explained in detail in the police investigation," and did not give a detailed answer.

The police investigated 45 people related to the collapse. So far, 6 people have been arrested, including excavator drivers, general building demolition subcontractor site managers, supervisors, asbestos demolition subcontractor site managers, construction contract brokers, and HDC staff site managers. .
