A 30-year-old man who pranked a co-worker at a picnic and drowned him in a river has been sentenced to imprisonment.

Judge Moon-sik Jeong of the Chuncheon District Court announced today (3rd) that he sentenced 31-year-old A, who was charged with manslaughter, to six months in prison.

Person A was charged with killing a 28-year-old colleague B, who was not wearing a life jacket, by pushing him from behind on a barge at a water leisure facility at a resort in Chuncheon around 3 pm on August 17 last year, and drowned him.

The two are part-time employees at a restaurant, and they came to Chuncheon with the restaurant manager at the time.

Mr. A saw Mr. B standing on the edge of the barge, playing with other employees to drown in the river, and pushed Mr. B as a joke.

Judge Jung sentenced him to prison, saying that it was a joke, but he did not confirm that Mr. B could swim and ended up killing Mr. B because he did not follow the safety regulations.

Judge Jung said, however, that Mr. A was deeply reflecting on his actions and took into account the fact that he tried to rescue the victim by ripping the bottom of the barge.
