Vaccination against COVID-19 in the third quarter of this year, which will start next month, is expected to be administered first to those in their 50s.

At a plenary meeting of the Health and Welfare Committee held at the National Assembly today (16th), Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) Director Jung Eun-kyung said, "The third quarter vaccination plan will be announced tomorrow (17th). “We will be able to start vaccinations around August,” he said.

"As for the type of vaccine, we will decide on a monthly basis taking into account the supply situation and timing," he added.

Commissioner Jeong replied, "I guess so" to a question from Rep. Shin Hyun-young of the Democratic Party of Korea, 'Can people in their 40s be in August?'

Accordingly, it is expected that vaccination for the general public aged 50-59 will be conducted first in July, and then the vaccination for the general public aged 18-49 will be conducted at once from August, regardless of age.

In this regard, Hong Jeong-ik, head of the vaccination management team of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (promotional team), said at a back briefing today, "In the second half of the year, the remaining national vaccinations will start, so it is necessary to quickly vaccinate all citizens quickly rather than (determining) specific targets. We are moving in that direction,” he said.

When asked whether priority vaccination for Jeju Island or some key industries would be reflected in the third quarter plan, team leader Hong replied only, "Many groups and organizations have offered opinions," and said, "We will review it and announce it tomorrow."

The government will confirm and announce the 3rd quarter vaccination plan, including the target and number of vaccinations for July and September, and the type of vaccine for each vaccination group.
