In the case of the collapse of the demolished building in Gwangju, the police seized and searched the headquarters of Hyundai Industrial Development (HDC), the contractor of the redevelopment project.

Today (16th), according to the Gwangju Police Agency, etc., the investigation headquarters sent about 10 investigators to the Hyundai Industrial Development headquarters in Seoul this morning to execute a search and seizure warrant.

Hyundai Development Company is the contractor for the redevelopment project in the 4th district of Hakdong, Gwangju, in which 17 people were injured due to the collapse of the building being demolished.

For the dismantling of general buildings that had collapsed, Hyundai Industrial Development, the contractor, entrusted the construction work to Hansol Corporation, but Hansol entrusted the actual construction to the Gwangju area company, Backsol Construction, in the form of subcontracting.

Hyundai Development Company is suspected of directly or indirectly affecting the accident as it ordered excessive watering in the process of demolition work, being aware of dust complaints, and the soil, which had become heavy with water, collapsed.

In addition, unlike Hyundai Development Company's explanation that "there was no subcontract," the fact of subcontracting the demolition work was confirmed, and the illegality of the contract is also subject to investigation.

The police have booked some of the officials at the Hyundai Industrial Development site on charges of negligence and death.

Meanwhile, the police investigated more than 20 people in relation to this disaster, and among them, 14 people including those related to the Hyundai Industrial Development site, officials from the demolition company, and officials from the supervision company were booked as suspects.

Among them, two people, including an excavator driver (CEO Baeksol) and the person in charge of on-site construction, have applied for a preliminary arrest warrant on charges of negligence and fatality, and the interrogation of the suspects will be held tomorrow (17th) at 11 a.m. at the Gwangju District Court.

It was confirmed that Moon Heung-sik, a former 5/18 detained injured chairman who was arrested for being deeply involved in the Hakdong District 4 redevelopment project, fled overseas on a plane bound for the United States on the 13th.
