THE ESSENTIAL

  • Canceled last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Google's high mass for developers is held virtually from Tuesday to Thursday.

  • The company should unveil a new Android design and undoubtedly attempt a comeback on smartwatches and tablets.

  • Unless surprised, however, we should have to wait before discovering the Pixel 6, expected in the fall.

Google I / O 2021: What to expect from the next conference which will be open to the public?

The big tech conferences are (almost) back.

Canceled last year because of the pandemic, Google I / O, the high mass for the developers of the Mountain View giant, is taking place this year by videoconference from Tuesday to Thursday.

And Google, which made the news more recently with bad buzz (antitrust procedure in the United States, controversy over the controversial dismissal of a black researcher) than by its innovations, is expected at the turn.

We should discover an ambitious redesign of Android 12, with color themes adapted to the wallpaper, and completely revised widgets / notifications. Left fallow by Google, WearOS could finally come out of its coma, while rumors about the upcoming arrival of a Pixel Watch multiply. Ditto on the tablet side, where Android, struggling against iOS on productivity, wants to pull itself together. And the Google Assistant, which is stagnating after interesting progress, should also unveil its new features.

Since Google I / O is primarily software-focused, we shouldn't see the Pixel 5a and even less the Pixel 6, even if the new Pixel Buds headphones should be there.

We still hope to have news of the new house chip from Google, nicknamed Whitchapel, which should shake the Android galaxy until now dependent on the giant Qualcomm.
