order to detect child abuse incidents that are continuing all over the place even a little early, attention of everyone, including child care institutions and hospitals, is required.

Reporter Kim Sang-min will tell you what things about children can help you recognize signs of abuse.

Have you ever heard the word'TEN-4'?

If you find bruises or other scars on the torso, ears, or neck of a child under the age of 4, you should be suspicious of possible abuse.

This is because the areas where children are hurt while playing are mainly their knees and elbows.

The Pediatric Emergency Society and Seoul National University Hospital have come up with a screening method consisting of a total of 8 items so that the fact of recent abuse can be detected early.

Usually, if a child is injured, he will quickly go to the hospital.

However, if your visit to the hospital is delayed for no apparent reason, you should be suspicious.

You should also look closely at the part where the explanation of the child and the guardian is inconsistent about the reason for the injury.

In addition, the reason for the injury is valid considering the age. The explanation of the fact that a two-year-old got burned in hot water while turning a faucet, or fell while riding a hard-to-combust tricycle is likely to be a lie.

Children are short, so they seldom injure their brains even if they fall down, but as in the case of Jihyangi, they stepped on cooking oil and fell, causing cerebral hemorrhage.

If a fracture appears in the ribs and shoulder blades, including TEN-4 described above, or burns or scars are found in parts of the body such as the thigh, the likelihood of abuse is very high.

If a child under the age of two has a head injury or a broken limb, you should also suspect abuse.

In addition, the abuse situation can be found in children's clothing, nutritional status, and behaviors seen when being with parents. When in doubt, proactive reporting can help prevent further damage.
