To respond to the electrification of the automotive market, the Hyundai brand is marketing a new electric car.

Capable of covering almost 500 kilometers on a single charge and filling its battery in 18 minutes, the Ioniq 5 must convince more motorists to switch to electric.

Faced with the explosion in sales of electric vehicles in 2020 in France (+ 169% compared to 2019), the South Korean brand Hyundai is marketing the new Ioniq 5. An SUV with a futuristic design, built on a new platform dedicated to engines electric and which can accept up to 350 kW of power on a fast charging station.

"Today, the charging time is divided by two or even three thanks to this new type of electric vehicle," explains Thibault Roussel, product manager at Hyundai.

To display such recharging power, the brand relies on the 800-volt architecture of its platforms.

Technology that allows the Ioniq 5 to charge from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes.

"If we make the report and the equivalence in kilometers, we can load 100 kilometers in five minutes", underlines the project manager of the Korean brand.

A selling point

While the network of fast charging stations should expand until 2022, the charging speed of electric vehicles is becoming a criterion of choice. "One of the things that stopped me today is that I told myself that I could not use an electric to go on vacation and do more than 700 or 800 kilometers. But with a charge in 20 minutes, we have almost 80% of the load on this vehicle. That's what convinced me, ”explains Marc, owner of a diesel vehicle and who has pre-ordered a Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Other car manufacturers also want to improve the charging powers of their cars. The future platforms of Renault, Stellantis (PSA-FCA) and Volkswagen should allow faster charging. Finally, Tesla, a major player in electric mobility, regularly increases the charging power of its cars already in circulation, thanks to updates via the Internet.
