Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who brought up new issues at every state council meeting such as publicly announced prices and quarantine issues, announced his intention to promote free kindergarten meals today (4th).

[Se-Hoon Oh/ Mayor of Seoul: To promote free kindergarten meals, in order to calculate the exact price of meals and calculate the financial burden of support under discussion with the city council (we will carry out a research service.)] We

will accept the proposal of the Seoul Superintendent of Education and the city council and implement it as soon as possible. .

12 out of 17 metropolitan cities, excluding Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gyeongnam, and Gyeongbuk, are already offering free kindergarten meals.

Regarding the point that the position was different from 10 years ago, Mayor Oh said, "It is meaningless to consider the universality of welfare policies every time."

In addition, he said that it has also suggested to the government to realize the cost of meals at daycare centers, which is lower than that of kindergartens in terms of equity.

There will be no major obstacles to the expansion of free meals.

While both the Ministry of Education and Welfare, which are in charge of kindergartens and daycare centers, are known to be positive, the Seoul City Council, which has the authority to review the Seoul budget, also responded with a "welcome" response.

Free kindergarten meals require about 83 billion won. Like elementary, middle and high schools, the city's office of education, the city of Seoul, and autonomous districts pay a 5 to 3 to 2 ratio.
