"Maintaining the Russian segment of the International Space Station <...> will require approximately the same funds as will be required from 2025 to deploy a separate national Russian orbital station," RIA Novosti quoted Rogozin as saying.

He noted that Russia is starting the process of negotiations with NASA on the issue of mutual obligations on the ISS.

“We will transfer responsibility for our segment to our partners, or we will perform those tasks that are necessary to maintain the station, on a commercial basis, and not at the expense of our budget,” Rogozin added.

He also clarified that the project to create a new Russian orbital station is in a high degree of elaboration.

The station itself, according to Rogozin, will be visited, not permanently inhabited: this is necessary in order not to expose the crews to "excessive risk of radiation."

Earlier, the head of Roscosmos said that the first module of the new Russian space station would be ready in 2025.

In April, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov announced that the Russian side is withdrawing from the International Space Station project from 2025 and plans to start creating a new national orbital station.
