Yesterday (10th), a big fire in a residential-commercial building in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do was all turned off this morning, after 10 hours.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been identified, but it is believed that a gas explosion occurred in the dining room kitchen on the ground floor.

Reporter Kim Min-jung reports.

<Reporter> A

large pillar of fire and black smoke emanated through the forest of the apartment building, and the inside of the parking lot of the building on fire was engulfed in red flames.

Yesterday, the fire in a residential-commercial building in Namyangju was all turned off at around 2:40 a.m. today, 10 hours after the fire.

About 1,500 residents evacuated, and 40 people were treated at the hospital for inhaling smoke, but no one was seriously injured.

However, as the flames soared, the residents of the neighborhood had to feel uneasy throughout.

[Neighboring residents: The fire was very big. There must be a lot of people, but it's Saturday. It doesn't make sense.]

[Neighboring residents: Oh, what

should I do

?]

There were also scenes where neighboring residents gathered near a fired building to watch the fire scene, or climbed up on the roof of a nearby building to watch the firefighting work.

The fire department said it was presumed that a fire had started in the Chinese restaurant on the first floor of a multi-purpose building.

[Gyeonggi North Fire Department: We are estimating the ignition point towards the restaurant kitchen. (Tomorrow) The fire joint detection should come out with both gas and electricity. (I think I can figure out the cause of the fire.)] The

fire department plans to find the exact cause of the fire by conducting a joint identification with the police and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation tomorrow
