The late cinematographic debut of Toño López, a director from the world of television series, is
one of the great revelations of Spanish cinema in times of coronavirus
.
A hilarious comedy with elements of a thriller (or a very funny thriller, as you prefer), which takes place in Ourense and in which the ribeiro, basketball and the octopus play a fundamental role.
It all starts when two brothers-in-law (well, to be exact, brothers-in-law, because they are married to two sisters) get into a mess with the estate that threatens to destroy their wives' family winery.
Faced with the refusal of a businesswoman to help them, they decide to go down the middle road and
commit a sloppy express kidnapping
with her brother-in-law ... who is not willing to pay a penny for him.
Depressed, they take a good curda of wine with their victim and between the three of them they hatch a plan that, now, is presented as infallible.
Or so they think ...
The three protagonists,
irreducible losers, are endearing and moving
and their insurmountable clumsiness are told with a lot of affection and a lot of sense of humor (Galician, naturally) by a López who gives the film a frenetic pace, almost in the vein of screwball comedies from the 30s, with the unbeatable support of a cast in which there are no great stars but
great actors and actresses
who make up, from a script that draws them impeccably, a quirky and impeccable gallery of characters with whom it is impossible not empathize.
Without resorting to easy and predictable jokes but by dint of composing
absurd but perfectly logical and coherent situations
within its absurdity, the film flows with extreme naturalness, between a permanent smile and the occasional laugh, to result in high-level entertainment .
If we add to that that the oenological references, and some
cephalopod
gastronomic
, are very well brought and that the expertise of the new filmmaker makes us almost get excited with a Breogán-Ourense from the LEB League ...
