Aged in his sixties, the man was swept away by a wave on Monday in Saint-Pierre de Quiberon, in Morbihan.

Despite the intervention of the emergency services, he could not be brought back to life. 

A man in his sixties was swept away Monday afternoon by a wave in Saint-Pierre de Quiberon, in Morbihan, the Atlantic prefecture announced in the evening.

The tragedy took place shortly before 5:30 p.m. and the emergency services were alerted by a witness.

The victim, unconscious, was recovered at 5:55 p.m.

But, "despite the resuscitation efforts of the SAMU team", the man could not be brought back to life, said the maritime prefecture.  

High tides until the middle of the week

The maritime and prefectural authorities have called for special vigilance these days on the seaside because of the high tides which last until midweek.

This Monday, the tide was high around 6.15 p.m. in the Quiberon sector.
