Opinions still differ over whether pregnant people can get the corona vaccine.

The World Health Organization has consulted with a doctor so that they can be met, but our country has not yet allowed it.

Amidst this, a study found that when a pregnant woman was given the COVID-19 vaccine, antibodies were also transmitted to the fetus and breast milk.

For more information Dong-chan Cho is a medical reporter.

Yumi Gan, a 9-year nurse at a university hospital in Seoul, is a priority candidate for COVID-19 vaccination.

But I could not get the vaccine.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization are in contact with many pregnant women. In the case of medical staff, teachers, police, etc., we consulted with doctors to receive vaccinations.

This is because if you are infected with COVID-19 during pregnancy, your severe risk increases by up to 13 times and your risk of preterm birth by 60%.

However, the policy of our health authorities is to prohibit vaccinations.

The reason was that there was no research on whether the vaccine would work for pregnant women or harm the fetus.

Harvard University in the U.S. presented the results of a study of 84 pregnant women working in the health care field.

Pregnant women, like non-pregnant women, developed enough antibodies.

In particular, antibodies were also measured in the umbilical cord and breast milk, which was passed to the fetus and breast milk.

After two hits, the amount of antibody increased and there were no abnormalities in the fetus.

[Geum-Joon Jo/Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kodae Guro Hospital: Since babies born have the antibodies, they may eventually escape the risk of infection for a certain period of time.]

Fetal safety issues need to be seen in further studies, but our health authorities are also the result of this study. If you look at your back and consult with your doctor, pregnant women need to consider how to get the vaccine.
