OnePlus: a security breach led to the leak of user data -

OnePlus could choose to abandon its Android overlay in China, in favor of that of another Chinese manufacturer, Oppo.

In any case, this is the hypothesis put forward by XDA Developers.

As a reminder, the overlay is the skin of the operating system, Android in this case, chosen by the manufacturers in order to offer a user experience different from the competition.

There are a number of them, such as Pixel Experience, OneUI, MiUI or even OxygenOS, the historical overlay of OnePlus, this one being slightly different for China where it is called HydrogenOS.

Last hours

A version that would live its last hours since the site dedicated to HydrogenOS will close its doors on March 24, reports XDA Developers.

What suggest the disappearance of the overlay.

As for the updates, they would simply be abandoned as of April 1.

This does not mean that smartphones running with HydrogenOS will end up in the trash, but rather that they will benefit from another overlay, that of Oppo, called ColorOS.

Then again, this may sound surprising, but it is not that much since OnePlus and Oppo are actually strongly linked.

They belong to the same group, the Chinese multinational BBK Electronics.

However, for several years, the two brands of smartphones have continued to come together.

OnePlus' adoption of the Oppo overlay would only be another logical step in their rapprochement.

As for the integration of ColorOS on OnePlus smartphones sold in the West, there is little chance that this will happen, at least for now.

“We have no news to share about HydrogenOS at this time, but we can confirm that OxygenOS remains our operating system for international devices,” OnePlus told XDA Developers.
