Be careful, if you are using hatsApp on a device that is starting to date, the application may soon no longer be accessible.
The latest update, rolled out this week, makes messaging obsolete on some smartphones and tablets.
This concerns all iPhones running iOS 9 (deployed in 2016) or earlier, reports
Phonandroid
.
that relays a blog post from WhatsApp.
This is the case of the iPhone 4S, the latest model not to be able to go beyond this version of iOS.
It will therefore now be necessary to have an iPhone 5 or newer to be able to have the latest version of WhatsApp.
A security risk
The iPad 2, 3 and Mini 1 are also affected, as well as the iPod Touch 5G.
All Android devices running OS 4.0.2 or earlier are in the same situation.
All of these smartphones and tablets should be able to continue using WhatsApp until January 1, 2022, but messaging will likely start showing some malfunctions.
Another problem is that these devices will no longer receive a security update.
Using WhatsApp will therefore represent a risk of cyberattack or data theft.
On its site, the messaging recommends that affected users save their exchanges to a
cloud
and restore them as soon as possible on a newer device capable of receiving the new update.
