It is now necessary to specify the terms of this criminal project and the role of all the protagonists who were able to contribute to it", specified Rennes prosecutor Philippe Astruc in a press release.

Research since February 12

Magali Blandin, a 42-year-old specialist educator and mother of four, has been wanted since the evening of February 12, when she had not gone to pick up her children from school.

His disappearance had given rise to extensive searches around his home in Montfort-sur-Meu, in Ille-et-Vilaine, about thirty kilometers west of Rennes.

The investigation rebounded last Sunday with the arrest of four men and a woman, born between 1975 and 2003, suspected of attempted extortion in an organized gang.

Magali Blandin's husband had indeed presented himself at the end of February to the judge in charge of the investigation to inform him that he was the victim of an "attempted extortion of a sum of 15,000 euros" and that he "felt threatened".

An attempted extortion

At the end of the custody, a man born in 1990 in Georgia was indicted for attempted organized gang extortion and organized gang murder and remanded in custody.

His partner, born in 1996 in Georgia, was indicted for attempted organized gang extortion and placed under judicial supervision.

Finally, another man, born in 1975 in Georgia, "well known in the judiciary, released from prison at the beginning of the year", was also indicted for attempted extortion by an organized gang and placed in pre-trial detention. , according to the prosecution. 

"The elements collected attest to an attempt at extortion which they say however unrelated to the disappearance of Magali Blandin but linked to a simple debt of her husband", specifies Philippe Astruc Astruc.

"A context of tensions within the couple"

In addition, a man born in 1980 in Georgia, neighbor of the husband of Magali Blandin, arrested Tuesday near Cherbourg, is still in police custody as well as the husband of Magali Blandin.

The latter had lodged a complaint for domestic violence on September 3, 2020 and declared "on this occasion to have been able to show herself violent", according to the prosecution which had closed the complaint without follow-up after the hearing of her husband in police custody . 

The investigation had "highlighted a context of tension within the couple linked in particular to the management of household resources", according to the same source.
