Netflix is testing a device intended to limit the phenomenon of use of an account by several people who do not live together.

Some users of the streaming platform have thus seen a message appear on their screen asking them to enter the verification code sent to them.

Few people have so far been targeted by this trial, reports the site

GammaWire

.

Targeted viewers are offered the option of receiving the verification code by SMS or email.

They can also ask to prove "later" that they have subscribed to Netflix.

"If you do not live with the holder of this account, you must open your own account to continue watching," the message read.

The warning proposes to "start your own Netflix for free today".

Password sharing prohibited

The message indeed proposes to benefit from 30 days of subscription without paying.

Most users who clicked "later" still did not see the warning reappear.

The Verge

explains, however, that if no verification code is entered after a certain time, the account no longer allows viewing of series or films.

Sharing passwords is a violation of the rules of use.

"The Netflix service, as well as any content watched via the service, is reserved for personal, non-commercial use only and must not be shared with people outside your household", thus specify these rules.

The streaming giant reserves the right to "terminate or suspend your account in order to protect you, as well as to protect Netflix or its partners, against any identity theft or any other fraudulent activity".
