  • Chapecoense plane crash: the six survivors

Bolivian Erwin Tumiri feels "very blessed by God" and of course, if in 2016 he was one of the few survivors of the air tragedy of the Brazilian club Chapecoense in Colombia and has just evaded death again in an

accident on a highway in Bolivia with a score of deceased

.

The circumstances are different from those of five years ago, but the physical sensation is the same due to the consequences left by the first accident in the spine, as he told Efe this Wednesday from the bed of the private clinic where he recovers after surviving. to the cliff of a bus on the eve.

Regarding the recent event, Tumiri confessed to feeling sorry "because many people have died and at the same time a lot of anger" because

it is not the first time that the transport company in which he was traveling has suffered an accident of these characteristics

.

But also this young evangelical born in the central city of Cochabamba in 1991

feels and knows that he is blessed by the two times he saved his life

.

"Personally, I feel very blessed by God and God does not leave him at all, He is always in my purposes, in my projects that I have to do, He is always there," he said.

The air tragedy

November 28, 2016 is a date that completely changed him.

A plane of the now defunct Bolivian airline LaMia in which soccer players and Chapecoense leaders, as well as journalists and crew members were traveling from the Bolivian region of Santa Cruz, crashed near the Colombian city of Medellín after running out of fuel.

In the accident, 71 of the 77 passengers on the plane died, most of them soccer players, and there were six survivors, including Tumiri, one of the ship's crew.

That experience allowed her to

appreciate her mother and her friends

who gave her unconditional support at a difficult time, she said.

"Since the flight happened, I saw that there are good friends who are always there and I value them all," he said.

After the accident, he turned more to his religion, while trying to work in different places, but the quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic stopped some plans he had.

His dream of returning to work in the aeronautical area came to fruition last February, when he was accepted into the state General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC).

People yelled at the driver: "stop, stop"

The accident suffered is somehow connected to his new job, since he was assigned to the town of Chimoré, in the central area of the Tropic of Cochabamba, and

the trip he was taking was precisely to complete his transfer

.

The trip was scheduled for the night, although he confessed that he "did not want" to do it with the transport company involved in the event because the bus looked "old".

Finally he made up his mind and loaded his things into the vehicle with the help of the driver, settled into his seat, put on headphones to listen to music and began to doze on the way.

Later in the trip,

"people began to shout, they said 'stop, stop

'. Many people were beginning to cry, the ladies most of all," he said.

"I threw my cell phone, I grabbed the front seat hard and leaned back" imagining what would come next due to the speed with which the vehicle was moving, he explained.

"I held on hard. We have been running for a while and from there it turned over.

In the end I crawled out, I was one of the first to leave. They

took me in a van, I think from the Police," said Tumiri, who arrived first at Colomi town and from there he was transferred by ambulance to Sacaba.

For the young man, it is likely that the bus brakes had broken because he was traveling at an "extremely strong" speed without the driver being able to do anything to slow it down.

Cooperative spirit

Tumiri is confident that his physical injuries will heal soon and although he is afraid to get on a bus, he said that "something" will do to complete his transfer to Chimoré.

In addition to working on what he is passionate about, the young survivor wants to help people in need, such as the humble indigenous people he saw in the cold streets of La Paz when he was looking for a job.

"I proposed that with my first salary I was going to invite them (something), it is my feeling," he said.

He is also dedicated to making fused folk music in his church, with the purpose of having God always present.

"Maybe God is not going to show it to you suddenly, but he knows when he is going to show us his loyalty," he concluded.
