WhatsApp is testing a new feature in which images in chats are automatically deleted over time, according to screenshots from the site

WABetaInfo on Wednesday

.

The screenshots show a new function that allows a user to choose to have an image automatically removed after a certain period of time.

If the sender chooses to do so, the recipient can only view a photo once, just like on Snapchat.

Also, it would not be possible for the recipient to save the image on his or her own phone.

However, it is still possible to take a screenshot of the photo.

It is not clear whether the sender will receive a warning.

For the time being, the screenshots show no such report.

Whether and when the feature will actually be released is not known.
