Following Yangyang, Gangwon-do on the 18th, there was a big forest fire yesterday (20th) in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do.

Although the forest authorities have started to evolve, they are struggling to evolve due to strong fires and steep terrain.

First, we will connect to the press office to find out the situation at this time.

Reporter Han Se-hyun, please.

<Reporter> The

forest fire occurred at Nochusan Mountain, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do, around 3:50pm yesterday.

So, the forest fire has been running for nearly 9 hours so far.

The Forestry Authority is mobilizing about 200 people, including 11 helicopters, including 3 extra-large helicopters from the Forest Service, and 200 personnel including fire fighting vehicles and special fire fighting teams.

However, most of the sites with wildfires are steep slopes where manpower is virtually impossible to input, and the strong wind of 6.2m per second makes extinguishing work more difficult.

The fire fighting helicopter was also withdrawn after sunset, raising concerns that more forest fires could spread overnight.

Instead, the forestry authorities are working to prevent further damage by building a stop line on the ground and putting in a large number of ground experts such as special fire fighting teams.

In addition, two drones from the Forest Service were urgently deployed to support them.

There are 16 residents of 4 households living under the mountain, and fortunately, it is known that there is no damage to people or damage to facilities as the forest fire spreads in the opposite direction to the village.

However, it is still too early to be relieved as the huge pillars of fire soar and the wind direction can change.

The current evolution rate is about 50%, and it is estimated that 110,000㎡ of national forest has been burned.

The forest authorities plan to re-inject the helicopter as soon as the day dawns to begin full-fledged evolution.

I will tell you again.
