The European Space Agency (ESA) will soon launch a recruitment campaign among young Europeans.

These future astronauts will notably have the chance to go on a mission to the International Space Station, and even why not go to the moon.

And this year, ESA hopes to recruit more women.

The European Space Agency will launch a campaign at the end of March to recruit its future astronauts.

An opportunity for young Europeans that has not been presented for eleven years.

But this time, ESA hopes to attract more women.

Because of the 570 European astronauts today, only 10% are women.

During the last recruitment campaign, which notably benefited Thomas Pesquet, only one in 10 candidates was a woman.

Those who will be recruited will be able, among other things, to hope to go on mission to the International Space Station, in orbit around the Moon, or even on the Moon, since Europe plans to return there in the years to come.

A year and a half campaign

Several conditions are required to be a candidate, starting with age.

You have to be between 27 and 37 years old to claim it, have perfect eyesight, i.e. 100% in each eye and finally be psychologically strong and able to keep calm in stressful situations.

But the profiles can be very different, as explained Claudie Haigneré, who has been to space twice.

"We are looking for astronauts who will have a master's degree and three years of professional experience, which will allow them to develop their own expertise, whether they are researchers, doctors, engineers, pilots ... But also to acquire all the skills of multiple complex systems that they will have to maintain on board the station. "
