<Anchor> The

court has convicted'not guilty' of former Maritime Police Commissioner Kim Seok-gyun and other maritime police commanders who were accused of failing to properly rescue the Sewol ferry.

The police, who commanded the rescue at the scene six years ago, made a judgment different from those convicted of conviction, but the bereaved family strongly opposed it.

Reporter Ahn Hee-jae reports.

<Reporter> When the

broadcast telling you not to move even if the hull of the Sewol ferry is already inclined 45 degrees, 123 boats and helicopters arrived at the site.

The Coast Guard Command Department, including Maritime Police Commissioner Kim Seok-gyun, commanded the rescue by receiving reports on the situation at the site.

However, the seaview 123 suit left the site with only Captain Lee Jun-seok and the crew.

Eventually, 303 people died in the sunken Sewol ferry.

In response, the prosecution handed over 123 suits to trial on charges of negligence and manslaughter, and the Supreme Court confirmed the sentence of three years in prison.

He admitted to the fact that he was able to induce passengers to leave, but he did not do this properly, resulting in numerous victims.

The Sewol ferry disaster special team, which was launched late, also handed over 11 commanders, including Commissioner Kim Seok-gyun, to trial.

After a one-year trial, the court's conclusion today (15th) was innocent.

It was difficult to predict that the Sewol ferry would sink without a commander who was not present at the site, and it was difficult to predict that the captain or the Coast Guard would not rescue, he said.

However, two people, including the former Mokpo Coast Guard, who had to write a false report to avoid censure, were convicted and sentenced to probation.

The prosecution said it would appeal immediately, and even the survivors protested fiercely, saying it was unacceptable.

Condemning innocence for not predicting that hundreds of people would be sacrificed, he said, was giving relief to rescue authorities.
