KAIST, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, invited a mathematician who was confirmed by the Supreme Court for sexual harassment of his students to hold a seminar but canceled it when criticism grew.

KAIST Department of Mathematical Sciences was planning to invite former Seoul National University professor Mr. K to lecture on expressions in algebraic geometry five times online.

However, Mr. K was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2016 in the Supreme Court on charges of assaulting seven female students eight times, and was also dismissed from school.

When the news of KAIST's invitation to hold a seminar by inviting Mr. K was announced, criticism was poured out, and after controversy, Mr. K was known to have indicated that he would not lecture to KAIST.

KAIST said it had decided to cancel the scheduled lecture at the will of Mr. K.
