All is well for the famous American community social network.
The Reddit exchange forum site, which notably hosts the popular WallStreetBets forum at the center of American stock market news at the start of the year, is now worth $ 6 billion, after a fundraising of $ 250 million.
“We decided that now was the right time to make strategic investments, including video, advertising, customer products and expansion to international markets,” the company said in a blog post.
A standard-bearer for freedom of expression on the Internet
Founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, Reddit claims more than 50 million daily users.
The site, which brings together different communities of interest exchanging on forums ("sub-reddit"), is often presented as a standard bearer of freedom of expression on the Internet.
Reddit is also behind the famous “Ask Me Anything” (AMAs), where a personality responds live to questions from Internet users.
Many stars or personalities like Barack Obama, Bill Gates or Madonna have already lent themselves to this exercise.
The site has also been singled out several times for excessive behavior by certain users or sharing hateful content.
A popular forum of supporters of former US President Donald Trump was notably closed last year for violating the site's rules by posting messages inciting racism or violence.
