The mask worn by iPhone users is problematic when it comes to unlocking the device with Face ID.

Indeed, the tool does not recognize masked faces.

But Apple seems to have found the solution.

The beta version of iOS 14.5 that the brand has just unveiled has a new function to remedy the problem, reports

.

But it will have to go through the Apple Watch.

Currently, to unlock their iPhone, in the absence of the Touch ID fingerprint recognition system, the user must either enter their code or lower their mask down so that the Face ID tool can recognize it.

With the future version of its operating system, Apple will allow users to keep their mask.

Apple Watch near the phone

For this, the Apple Watch must be unlocked and in the immediate vicinity of its owner.

Then the user will just have to look at their iPhone for Face ID to operate.

Even if he keeps his mask, facial recognition will work.

But beware, this feature will simply unlock the phone but will not work for purchases.

In this case, an access code will always be necessary.

The feature should be released in a final version of iOS in the spring.
